street lighting festival | Kartigai
Today is street lamp lighting festival. I hope he will return home to join with our celebration, the lady says to her friend-maid.
You, my friend, my dreams in night are sweet. I read some omens in sane favorable. The plows are idle after plowing season. There are no rain-falling-legs in sky. The full-moon showing its shadow is shinning among Karthigai stars. The ladies are lighting lamps in street. I expect he, my husband earning away in a distant place will join with the celebration. The newly wedded girls appear drying their hair after bath. Other ladies cook food for her in three-stone-oven. They cook rice-cereals in milk. Some other ladies pound new paddy gathered from the field for the purpose using wooden rod with their bangle-music. On hearing the pounding sound the crane bird sitting on the plantain leaf will fly away to rest on Mango-tree.
These phenomena will occur in the village Idaiyaru in the region of King Karikalan who saved his citizens without migration in difficulties.
He went crossing Vebgadam hills (modern Tiruppatti) to earn for the family. Flowers Vengai will blossom liking tiger in appearance. Monkeys will play on these trees by which the flowers will drop down.
I hope he will return home to join with us in the festival.
