ILAVU (Ceiba pentandra)
இலவங்காய்
Her morning look is appearing in mind even when I am being away in a distant place earning, the hero says to his mind.
Deer eats raw ILAVU (Ceiba pentandra) fruits upping its front feet. These fruits are falling on the rock. This is the route where I am passing.
I informed her, my lover, my decision of going to earn by this route.
Tear-balls roll in her eyes resembling the petals of water-lily. She hides her tears by her combed hair.
She weeps like the blowing sound heard in the battle field when King UDIYAN fought.
Such of her sad face is still I mind when I am in a distance place.

Poet: ILAN-KIRANAR
Poem belongs to 2nd century B.C.
