Friend! It seems that he has no thought about me. Suppose, he thinks, there is no conversation between us. So I doubt he would not come. As a deer that tried in wane to drink mirage water (image) and slept under the shadow of a broken bend of tree YAA I am in thirsty of love (illusion). The route he passes through is where the deer could not quench its thirsty and sleep in partial shadow, the lady pronounces in her zeal.

232. பாலை

உள்ளார் கொல்லோ? தோழி! உள்ளியும்,

வாய்ப் புணர்வு இன்மையின் வாரார் கொல்லோ?

மரற்புகா (படம்) அருந்திய மா எருத்து இரலை,

உரற்கால் யானை ஒடித்து உண்டு எஞ்சிய

யாஅ வரி நிழல், துஞ்சும்

மா இருஞ் சோலை மலை இறந்தோரே.

பிரிவிடைத் தோழி வற்புறுத்தியது.

தோழி, கானல் நீரை அருந்திய இரலை மான் தாகம் தீராமல் யானை ஒடித்து உண்டபின் தொங்கும் யா மர நிழலில் உறங்கும் பசுஞ்சோலையை உடைய மலை வழியாகச் சென்ற அவர் என்னை நினைப்பாரோ மாட்டாரோ? நினைத்தாலும் பேச்சுவார்த்தை இல்லையே! ஒருவேளை வரமாட்டாரோ? – தலைவியின் ஏக்கம்.
