சுரந்தலைப் பட்ட நெல்லிஅம் பசுங் காய் (படம்)

மறப் புலிக் குருளை கோள் இடம் கரக்கும்

இறப்பு அருங் குன்றம் இறந்த யாமே,

குறு நடைப் புள் உள்ளலமே, நெறிமுதல்

கடற்றில் கலித்த முடச் சினை வெட்சித்

தளை அவிழ் பல் போது கமழும்

மை இருங் கூந்தல் மடந்தை நட்பே.

பொருள் முற்றி மறுத்தரும் தலைமகன்

தோழிக்கு உரைப்பானாய்க்

கிழத்தியைத் தெருட்டியது.

கடப்பதற்கு அரிய குன்றத்து பாலைநிலக் காட்டு வழியே பொருள் தேடச் சென்றேன். காய்த்திருக்கும் நெல்லிக்காய் புலிக்குட்டி பாய்வதற்காகக் காத்திருக்கும் மறைவிடத்தை மூடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் சுரம் அது. வழியில் குறுநடை போடும் காடைப் பறவையைப் பார்க்கும்போது என் மடந்தையின் நினைவும், பூக்கும் வெட்சிப் பூவைப் பார்க்கும்போது அவள் அதனைச் சூடியிருந்த அழகும் என் நினைவுக்கு வந்தன.
