Purananuru # 062

soldiers war
This is a war-field at Porpuram (modern Pettavaytalai) village.
Two kings alone fought for the victory after the soldiers fell. This kind of combat is called righteous-custom in war system of the Tamils. Both of them fell on ground. The royal-umbrella and the royal-band left without use. The kites were eating the flesh of the dead. The evil-girls of illusion dressed their hairs with blood of warriors fell on. They were slept on with funereal music by the girls. The wife of the warriors were also died along with their husbands without adopting widow-hood by eating only greens and taking bath in snow-water.
The Heaven enjoyed with new emigrated.
But alas, what happed happened to country of the kings died in war?
Let their fame be eternal, the poet hails.
