hair like sand notch in river bed
The hero speaks to his mind. You, my mind! It is easy to you to cross by dreadful route. There, elephant calf taking bath in mud drinks milk in mother’s breast standing under the shadow of the tree Kontrai hanging with its dry fruits. It will appear as a saint sitting in penance on a hill top with his rolled-hair. But I wouldn’t follow you leaving my girl. She has beautiful hair as that of sand layer in Aricil rever bed; that the river flows in Ambar country under the rule of King Killi, a man with fond of fame; who fought against King Pandil and won the battle.

Poet: SallianKumaranar
Poem belongs to 2nd century B.C.
