Purananuru 312

A mother of a son says.
To burn a son and build him strong is my duty.
To make him well versed is his father’s duty.
To provide him weapons is the duty of the village blacksmith.
To make him behave right is the duty of the Ruler.
To emerge victorious by killing the royal elephant of the opponent king is the duty of my son.
